Frequently asked Questions
Do I need a diagnosis to work with you?
No. A formal diagnosis can be helpful for understanding your profile and accessing certain supports, but it’s not required to begin. Many people come to me with suspected dyslexia, ADHD, or executive function challenges based on their lived experience. We start from what you’re noticing day-to-day and adjust as new information or assessments come in.
Do you diagnose learning disabilities, ADHD, or other conditions?
No. I don’t diagnose or provide psychoeducational assessments. I work alongside whatever assessments and healthcare supports you already have (or are pursuing), focusing on skills, strategies, systems, and self-advocacy.
Are you a teacher, therapist, or medical professional?
I’m a learning specialist, executive function coach, and Orton–Gillingham tutor. I am not an occupational therapist, psychologist, physician, or classroom teacher, and I don’t provide therapy, medical treatment, or clinical recommendations.
My work sits in the educational / coaching space: structured literacy, executive function support, academic coaching, and advocacy.
Who do you work with?
I work with late elementary students (approximately grades 3–5), middle and high school students, post-secondary students, and adults of any age. Some people come in during school; others reach out during work, burnout, or life transitions when old strategies have stopped working.
Where are your clients located? Are sessions online or in person?
All sessions are offered online via secure Zoom. I primarily work with clients across Canada (Pacific time zone), and occasionally with international clients where English-language support is appropriate.
What happens in a typical session?
It depends on the type of support and on the person. A session might include structured literacy work, planning and breaking down tasks, working through assignments, building systems for school or work, or troubleshooting current challenges. We check in regularly about what is and isn’t working and adjust the plan together.
Do you offer sliding scale rates?
Yes, on a limited basis. I keep a small number of reduced-fee spots for clients who would not be able to access support at my full rate. No financial documents are required. If cost is a concern, you’re welcome to mention this in your initial email and I’ll let you know if a sliding scale spot is available or when one might open.
